† Brief History of Roaring
Waste Fight Practice |
 |
Greetings. Welcome to the
information page for the Metro Detroit
Area,
Barony of the Roaring Wastes Sunday Fight Practice
group. Hopefully this page will
help you find the information
you need to start participating
in the
SCA
and Medieval Re-creation/Martial
Arts.
Medieval combat with its
swords, shield, and armor
attracts much attention. It is
often one of the first
activities that a newcomer wants
to try. Both men and women
actively participate in
recreating medieval foot
combat.
Fighting in the SCA evolved
from what happened when two
armed knights were unhorsed and
had to fight on the ground. It
resembles nothing so much as
medieval foot tournaments. There
are two basic types of SCA
fights: single combat, and group
or team battles, known as
melees. SCA fighting does have
rules. The first, and most
important rule, is that each and
every fighter on the field has
honor. The fighter keeps faith
with his honor by accepting
blows that would be killing or
wounding. We also having Rapier
Fencing at these practices. |
